If you’re interested in therapy in Utah, consider online treatment. While an independent practice or a mental health center may be available in your area, barriers to treatment, like a lack of available providers or transportation issues, can make it challenging to find an in-person appointment.

With BetterHelp, you can attend therapy with social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you, making treatment more accessible and convenient. This flexibility can benefit busy UT students, professionals, or parents with limited time in their schedules.

While BetterHelp does not currently provide group therapy or hold support groups, the providers on the platform can provide a welcoming environment for individual counseling and help you through your unique challenges. You can also request to have your counseling records transferred to your medical doctor or other provider if needed.

Whether you need to learn coping skills or mindfulness techniques or want to overcome past experiences, online treatment can help. If you’re looking for an online therapist, UT has many individual counseling services available. The providers on the following list are licensed to provide individual therapy online in Utah. If you need immediate support, please see the resources on our Get Help Now page.

I am Heather Ludwig, and I am so glad you’re here. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Therapist based in Nevada. I have a BS in Psychology from Brigham Young University in UT as well as a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling from the Graduate School Grand Canyon University, in AZ. I have been in the field for over 6 years and have a lot of experience working with various people who are working through things in all aspects of their lives. I am also a Life Coach who works with individuals (both Youth and Adults) to create their lives from a powerful space. I approach therapy and coaching in a very individual and personal way. I am a stimulus to help in finding any blocks or barriers that have been getting in the way of creating the life you actually desire.  Working together we can transform any obstacles that are present in your life into opportunities.  I listen to what is said and what is not said.  I am able to show others what they are not able to see on their own right now, and tell them what is critical and would be useful to create the results they are looking to achieve.  I value who you are and where you want to go in life. I empower others to reach and develop a higher level of performance in their lives that they usually were not even aware was possible. I specialize in high-stress, high-stakes scenarios and the individuals who are determined to master them. The individuals I work with can count on me to be reliable and to work with them on creating the best life possible for themselves, working through the situations that are causing pain in their lives. I am skilled in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Solution Focused Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, along with DBT skills as needed. I am also trained and experienced in the Parts and Memory Therapeutic modality. I help people examine their past and current relationships from a different perspective to see how their life has been impacted through their choices and behaviors. As both a therapist and life coach I am well acquainted with the importance of learning what problems and challenges are present and how to effectively create a foundation to move forward in creating a powerful, joyful life. I acknowledge and honor people exactly where they are, in that current space, and hold space for them to grow and improve to where they desire to be. All of you, all parts of you, are welcome here with me. I love, honor and respect each and every person I come in contact with. I truly care for people that I work with. We are a team and I am committed to working together with you to be successful in achieving the results that you desire.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I began my college education in a humble town located in Hawaii where I was raised until the age of 21. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology through distance learning and later earned my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2007 from the University of Phoenix. I currently practice via online telehealth only and have done so since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. My therapy approach is eclectic, meaning I combine different therapeutic approaches based on the presenting concerns and goals that are adapted to the needs of the person via the use of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, brief therapy and solution-focused therapy with particular attention to the psychoanalytic processes, which emphasizes how life events and relationship experiences both past and present may be affecting your current issues and circumstances. What I can bring to the counseling environment to help you with this is a style that I believe to be approachable and warm so that my patients are able to 1) actively process and explore, 2) find their way, 3) learn about themselves and 4) grow to be directors of their life. In short, to help you have the most successful experience in counseling it is important to me that we work together in establishing what your needs are and how I can be of most benefit to you. With that comes responsibility for your mental health and dedication of your time to your mental health needs. To be more specific, I ask that you not just do therapy sessions once a week for 30-45 minutes but that you have a proactive and committed intention of working on your mental health needs outside of therapy as well via homework that is completed in a timely manner as opposed to completing it right before your sessions; I need time to look over said homework and cannot do this effectively when it is sent back the day of. I am genuinely interested in what brings you to therapy and hope that you would feel comfortable working with me as I look forward to working with you. Lani

My theory of choice is the Adlerian Theory. However, I function from an eclectic approach as I used various techniques/ theory to reach my clients ( e.g., client center; cognitive behavior; brief therapy model; evidence based; mindfulness; etc). I often use the first 10 - 15 minutes of the session to process what has happen in the client's life since our last contact. The reminder of the session is used to introduce the client to techniques/ interventions he or she could utilize to mange her /his symptoms, behaviors, or environmental stressors that maybe associated the identified area of need of environmental stressors that may have occurred between sessions. Homework assignments are implement and these assignments normally consist of the client implementing the techniques/ intervention. During the next session, the client will be encouraged to reflect on the effectiveness of this technique/ intervention. My most powerful techniques are empathy, active listener, and genuine personality.

“If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain.” Aloha, I'm Tiana! I am a licensed clinician in the states of Nevada, Colorado and Utah; currently residing in the great Salt Lake City. I have 16 years of experience in mental health and addictions, which have been with both adult and adolescent populations in outpatient and residential settings. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Counselor Education, with a concentration in Community Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, in which the major focus of the program from which I received my master’s degree dealt with co-occurring issues. I hold licenses as a Clinical Professional Counselor (Nevada), a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (Utah) and a Professional Counselor (Colorado). I primarily use evidence-based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. I have also completed a three-year training program in Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) which focuses on somatic reactions to trauma, and am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I approach therapy from a client strength base and help to funnel through the underpinnings of your current event distress. I truly believe that a lot of what we deal with today is found in our past and assist in examining those roots and re-establish a new narrative, while finding some kind of relief through interventions and techniques of grounding, emotional regulation, and relaxation. Any kind of significant change means LOTS of ebbs and flows that I will be by your side through. I never ask someone I'm working with to do anything that I myself have not already done or continue to do myself. I'm just the co-pilot of this journey and it's my honor to be a part of it.

Welcome to my Therapy Room. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working in Mental Health. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including refugees, geriatric, chronic mental illness, relationship issues, and trauma. I have had special training in diagnosing Adults on the Autism Spectrum using the ADOS 2. I have had training in sex therapy and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy as well. I can supervise other therapists/students in WA state and discuss cases with colleagues as required per your code of ethics. My therapy style is person centered and solution focused. I believe you already have answers within you but may need someone to shine a flashlight on parts that may be hidden or buried. I will tailor our dialogue to meet your unique and specific needs. I am an introvert and will be more of a listener and guider. My style is not as interactive and upbeat as compared to an extroverted therapist. I am straightforward and go straight to the work in most cases, rather than spending lengthy time on small talk. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. I came to this country as a refugee in the 1980s and am a survivor of trauma. Age is important to clients so I will disclose I am in the 40s age range. My hobbies, include hiking, board games, reading, drinking tea and playing with cats. A little explanation on how I use different therapies: Somatic- helping you locate the feeling in the body and describing it based on a feeling meditation that originates from Eastern philosophies (this is a common technique used by therapists in recent years) CBT- working on thought distortions. Specifically, I like to teach a session on 12 common thought distortions and help you identify how they show up for you. ACT- working on seeing things can be both this way and that way, it's not black and white. We add the word "and" rather than "or" to your view of the world. AEDP- exploring how anxiety is really a cover for other emotions such as disappointment, rage, fear etc. Compassionate Inquiry- identifying how the emotional flashbacks (aka triggers) you are experiencing now are related to things that took place in the past. Awareness leads to initiation and we work on no longer letting these patterns take control of your life. Therapist self disclosure with personal stories that relate to yours is necessary. (this goes against some older styles where therapists didn't self-disclose) Motivational Interviewing- looking at how your goals don't match your current behaviors. Regular talk therapy and venting is great too- it helps me reflect back your patterns to you. For instance if you say a certain phrase frequently I will point this out to you. Poetry- I enjoy mixing in poetry when it pertains to certain issues and especially if you are a writer/poet. Shadow Work- exploring your unconscious patterns and stored memories and how they affect your way of thinking. Please take advantage of the journal feature. If you share it with me I may comment and we can discuss highlights during our sessions. I am ok with you having to multitask/snack/cook/text as long as you are dressed appropriately and engage in therapy. While we try our best to have a professional setting, sometimes working from home entails apartment noises, and a less than perfect setting. I may eat a snack or use my standing desk and exercise my feet for health reasons. If you are here for relationship struggles I enjoy using Gottman principles and you may opt to take the assessment but it is not required. My sessions are 30 to 45 minutes. We can see how the session is flowing and the stopping point will occur naturally for each session. However the minimum is 30 minutes. I can't accept less than that due to financial reasons. Betterhelp is great because you have an unlimited chat service available and when you schedule sessions, you can choose between phone, video and chatroom (livechat). So if you had a video session booked but it turns out you are at the doctor's office- we can quickly make it a livechat or if you are driving we can make it a phone call. It's easy to switch on my end. I look forward to meeting you!

How can a counselor support you?

Therapists may help you set and achieve career goals, work on current issues you may be facing, or address your past. Over 2,603,662 people live in UT, and one out of five Americans has a mental health condition. Searching for local licensed professionals may help you find mental health support for personal growth, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health concerns. You do not need a mental health diagnosis to seek support from one of BetterHelp's licensed providers above.

The mental health field can include psychiatric medication management, online therapy, marriage counseling, couples therapy, clinical social work, licensed counseling, and other mental health services in person and online. Seeing a licensed provider can help you navigate mental health conditions and life circumstances through mindfulness and other specialized techniques.

Please note that BetterHelp therapists in Utah does not offer diagnostic or medication management services in therapy.

Emergency services to contact in a crisis

If you are experiencing a crisis or emergency, don't use the BetterHelp therapy site. If you are in life-threatening danger, call 911. If you require support for a crisis, reach out to the therapy hotlines below:

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some of the most commonly asked questions about therapy can be found in the section below.

How much does therapy with a licensed therapist cost?

Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person Utah therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.

BetterHelp offers payment plans of $65 to $100 per week. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.

Is it possible to find a therapist, counselor, or psychology practitioner that offers affordable therapy?

Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.

When should I get a therapist in Utah?

Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

What can a psychologist help me with in therapy?

Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.

Does insurance cover the cost of in-person or online therapy with a therapist in Utah?

Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.

Are online therapy sessions the safe option?

Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.

In today's fast-paced society, mental well-being has become a cornerstone of a fulfilling life. Amid the daily challenges and stressors that can overwhelm even the most resilient individuals, seeking professional guidance often offers a path to clarity and balance. The journey toward improved emotional health involves understanding personal triggers, embracing self-compassion, and developing effective coping strategies. While self-help books and online resources provide valuable information, nothing compares to the personalized support offered by a qualified mental health professional. One-on-one sessions with experienced experts can help uncover the underlying issues contributing to anxiety, depression, or other emotional hurdles. With a careful and empathetic approach, these professionals tailor their advice to suit individual needs, ensuring that each person receives strategies that work best for their unique circumstances. Whether through cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness practices, or other innovative methods, the aim is to foster resilience and empower individuals to take control of their inner lives. For those living in bustling urban centers, engaging in face-to-face sessions in a welcoming environment can be particularly beneficial. Access to a caring clinician provides not only a safe space to explore difficult emotions but also builds a support network essential for long-term recovery. The process encourages self-reflection and greater insight into behavioral patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed. While the journey can be challenging at times, the rewards include enhanced emotional stability, improved interpersonal relationships, and a renewed sense of self-worth. In one notable case, the guidance provided by a highly trained therapist proved instrumental in navigating a tumultuous period. Through structured sessions and tailored interventions, the individual learned to identify stressors and develop healthier responses to adversity. This experience underscored the transformative impact that dedicated support can have on one's overall quality of life. In a region like Texas, community-based initiatives and accessible mental health programs further reinforce the value of professional help. These efforts emphasize early intervention, preventive care, and continuous support, ensuring that more people are equipped to face life's inevitable challenges. Ultimately, investing in mental well-being is an act of self-care that yields lifelong benefits. By embracing professional support, individuals can unlock new levels of emotional resilience and discover pathways to a brighter, more balanced future. Each step taken toward healing represents a commitment to personal growth, enabling a life filled with renewed optimism and strength. Embracing this transformative journey consistently paves the way for deeper understanding, lasting peace, and meaningful personal progress.
